Warming Winter Drinks for Cold & Chilly Days

Create these cozy drinks at home to help stay warm during these chilly days.

Creamy Hot Chocolate

(serves 4)

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup of sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1/3 cup of boiling water
  • 3 ½ cups of milk
  • ¾ t vanilla extract
  • ½ cup of half-and-half (optional)

Directions
Boil water in teakettle or pot. In a separate saucepan combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt. Add boiling water and bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it does not scorch. Stir in 3 ½ cups of milk and heat until hot, but do not boil. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs (or save the rest for later). Divide the half-and-half into each mug of cocoa to cool it to drink.

 


Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

(serves 1)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 T peanut butter (creamy)
  • 1 T unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 T sugar
  • 1 t vanilla extract
  • ½ t cinnamon

Directions
In a small pot, whisk together milk, cocoa powder, vanilla, sugar and cinnamon. Bring to a simmer and then add peanut butter—stirring until well combined and no clumps.

 


Honey-Ginger Tea

(serves 1)

Ingredients

  • 1 (1-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled
  • 1 tea bag of green tea (or your favorite tea)
  • 1 T fresh lemon juice
  • 2 T honey
  • 1 cup boiling water

Directions
Grate ginger using the large holes of a cheese grater to equal 1 Tablespoon. Place in a tea bal or cheesecloth. Place tea bag, ball of ginger, lemon juice and honey in teacup, add boiling water. Cover and steep for 3 minutes. Remove anddiscard tea bag and ball of ginger to enjoy.

 


Apple Citrus Cider

(makes 4 ½ qt.)

Ingredients

  • 1 gal. apple cider
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • ½ cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 ½ t whole cloves
  • 3 cinnamon sticks

Directions
Bring apple cider, orange juice, lemon juice, orange slices, lemon slices, cloves and cinnamon sticks to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Then, discard solids to enjoy.
